A Ride To Inspire

Camp Inspire, a “training camp” for Special Olympians from all over the state has been a Knights of Columbus charity for many years.  Special Olympics Georgia provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Their goal is to help bring persons with intellectual disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected, and given the chance to become useful and productive citizens. Last year the Georgia State Council of the Knights of Columbus, through Columbian Charities of Georgia (a non-profit corporation) donated over $60,000 to the Special Olympics of Georgia and Camp Inspire.

We hope to double or triple that number for 2011-2012 with our “Ride to Inspire” cycling event.

The first ride, of what we expect to become an annual event, will take place in Cartersville, Georgia on October 29th 2011 at the Budweiser facility and the country roads around it. There are 4 routes mapped out with distances of about 15 miles to over 100 miles so there is a ride for all abilities.

Each rider who signs up will be paying a nominal entry fee and be asked to raise donations with a minimum of $100. We are confident that 500 or more riders will participate which means that even at the minimum donation of $100 Georgia Knights can give $50,000 to Camp Inspire and Georgia Special Olympics.

But we need your help to make it happen. Please consider starting a team and raising funds for Camp Inspire and Special Olympics. We are also looking for corporate sponsors to help with all aspects of the ride such as food and beverage tents, and the other necessary amenities.

Can you imagine how it will look to see hundreds of 'Knight Riders' among the many participants? When the photos appear in the paper and people see what Catholic men and women can do, what might be more inspiring than that?
