As the nation marked the 36th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion on demand the Knights of Columbus launched a new initiative aimed at providing women considering abortion a new way of viewing the life within them.

The Knights of Columbus ultrasound project seeks to provide medically certified pro-life pregnancy centers with the modern technology to monitor the health of babies in-utero, and to allow mothers to visually experience that development.

Fast Facts

• Approximately 1.2 million abortions occur annually in the United States. That is about 3300 per day and nearly 1 in 4 pregnancies end in abortion. (CDC statistics)
• Between 70% and 90% of “abortion minded” women who see an ultrasound choose life.
• But only 40% of crisis pregnancy centers nationwide are equipped with ultrasound machines due to their high cost

Council 9923 set out to raise the money necessary to purchase an ultrasound machine.  Through a special program councils that raise $7500 can receive a match of that amount and purchase a machine for a local center of their choosing.

Council 9923 began with coffee sales, a “Give Change to Change A Life” spare change donation program, and a “Knight at the Theatre” presentation upcoming around Thanksgiving.
