As we look toward new opportunities in the 2nd half of our Fraternal Year, it is heartening to know that with our order, volunteering is inherently an optimistic activity. No one volunteers for a cause they assume is hopeless, therefore the very act of participation in a volunteer effort implies a ‘dream” that this problem can be solved, this cause can succeed, and that our effort can make a difference.
We seek to foster "volunteer entrepreneurship." We strive to modify the traditional ‘model’ where leaders define a need or problem, decide how it will be handled, and recruit Brothers to fill predetermined volunteer roles. Let us allow creative thinking to thrive. Let us give “permission to dream.” Perhaps we dedicate a part of a council meeting (or we call a special) to “dreaming” by that I mean we foster "idea discussions" on questions such as: • If we were to start our councils’ activities from scratch, what would you do differently? • In an ideal world, what would you like to 9923 accomplish? What should be our “legacy” to St Catherine’s?What idea has our council ever tried that you think might work? • If we were given an unrestricted grant of $10,000 what would you have our council spend it on? Perhaps it is just this activity that can lead us to new avenues to explore. Let us hear from you Brothers. |
