Come Along and Llisten to the "Lullaby of Broadway" PDF Print E-mail

42nd Street LivePluck a kid from the chorus, surround her with fresh faces and furiously fast tap dancers, mix in some memorable tunes and what  have you got?

42nd Street live on stage at the Strand Theatre on the Marietta Square hosted by Council 9923 of the Knights of Columbus. Mark you calendars for December 12th!

42nd Street is a Broadway musical which won the Tony Award for Best Musical and became a long-running hit. Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes and the subsequent 1933 film adaptation, it focuses on the efforts of famed dictatorial Great White Way director Julian Marsh to mount a successful stage production of a musical extravaganza at the height of the Great Depression.

Taking his cue from Hollywood's Busby Berkeley, famed for his elaborate musical numbers, director/choreographer Gower Champion filled the stage with spectacular dance routines, starting with forty pairs of feet tap-dancing away as the curtain slowly rose for the first act as they did at that time.

In addition to "Lullaby of Broadway" and the title song "42nd Street" you'll hear familar tunes like "You're Getting to Be a Habit With Me", "We're In The Money," "Shuffle Off to Buffalo," and "I Only Have Eyes For You."

Tickets are $30 per person to benefit the "Giving Tree" of St. Cathernine's which provides gifts at Christmas time to families in the Parish.

Stay tuned for when ticket sales will begin.
